Thank you to all of our wonderful customers who voted in our laminated cotton project at the shop. I am please to announce that Cambria took first place for her darling and inventive bowl covers, and Second place went to Linda for her picnic tote. Congrats Girls!
That was a lot of fun and a good way for all of you to see just how many wonderful things you can make with laminated cotton. Here is a look at all the entries:

Linda's Little apron. She used the amazing Fuse and Gather that we have at the shop. If you are putting a ruffle on any project, you just have to use this product!!! Absolutely Fabulous!

Sherri's Grocery bag cozy to organize all your plastic grocery bags. And thanks for making one just for me!! I love it

Linda's Laptop tote. It has a satin lining and elastic to hold all of your items in their place

A cute baby bib that also uses laminated bias strips for the binding, cut from your pinking blade.

LuJean made a sewing organizer complete with a needle cozy and a pin cushion. I love how she tied the spool of thread with ribbon, so that it is easy to unroll and use the thread while your are working.

a closer look at Cambria's bowl covers. I have to make these for all of my bowls, jelly pans, cake plates etc!!! Love them!

This is a panel from the line "Delighted" by the Quilted Fish that we have in laminated and also in cotton. Simply cut on the line, embellish and sew onto ric rac or bias tape. This can be used outside for any gathering because...yes...it is made of laminated cotton!!!

And of course, the Amy Butler Raincoat lined with corduroy! Wouldn't a matching umbrella be lovely? That just might be next on the list of projects....

And last, but not least, the laminated lampshade. Simple to make using basing spray!!

On a daily basis we get asked that very question...So...
all of the girls at the shop have made different items to give you ideas of what you can make.

Here's how it works.
Starting at our Winter Open House, January 13th and 14th, we will have all the projects that the girls have made on display at the shop. Come into the shop before the end of the month and vote for your favorite project. One lucky staff member will win a $50 visa gift card!!

You too can join in the fun!!

Starting Monday, January 16th, you can upload your own photos of what you have made from laminated cotton on our blog. Vote for your favorite project in the comments section, and the winner of the online contest will receive a $50 Quilter's Haven gift card!! Winners of both the in-store and on-line contests will be chosen on January 31st, so be sure to include your contact info with your pics!

Sadly, Shop Hop 2011 is a thing of the past. But we had a few more pictures to share with you all...
It's hard to see, but Glinda is trying to use her magic wand to stop the wheel where this munchkin wants it.

We actually had a visit from the REAL Toto! (the cutest dog in the world stopped by for a visit while he was on the job as a service doggy)

Spring Quilt Market Highlights

Where do I begin... Spring Quilt market is my favorite show, and we were lucky enough to have it held right here is SLC! I have two favorite things to do at market,

1: Schoolhouse!

This is where you meet all the designers face to face and see their newest fabric designs, products, books and patterns, and learn directly from them what inspires them to create! I just love it, and yes, by the way, most designers are real people just like you and me. However, I sometimes find it hard to keep from dropping to my knees and raising my arms in worship when Jo Morton shows up if you know what I mean!
She does have a new book coming out in a couple of weeks, and you'll never guess who won a copy of the book from Jo herself.....that's right, The Quilter's Haven Clan!!! We will have a give away in the shop when it arrives and give a copy to one lucky winner in June!

Just a side note... I am not a photographer! and should leave this task to someone else! I somehow seem to get the back of someones head in the frame, or snap a pic just when you do something which may seem a little unflattering, I can't help it I guess. My apologies in advance to all those whose beautiful faces I have so graciously cut-off the tops of your heads, snapped a good shot of your backside etc, etc... I seem to be more focused on the quilts obviously

Jo's Little Women Club

Jo’s Little Women Club is for those who love civil war patterns and fabrics. The patterns (available only to club members) are designed by Jo Morton and to be used with Jo Morton’s fabrics. Club 10 sign ups will begin on Friday, January 14^th. $30 for 5 months. We meet the 4^th Tuesday of the month. Come into the shop for more information.

Here are some pictures to entice you into joining in on our fun. We have plenty of room for all of you. That's right ALL of you.

Valentine's Day! Of course. I have to say that this is one of my favorite holidays. We should be telling people we love them constantly, but it is always nice to have a little extra day. I am a firm believer that you don't need to spend a lot of money on this day, just a lot of love. Awww. Now is a perfect time to start planning. We have in the cutest Valentine line from Moda by Sandy Gervais. I think the best part of it is that it isn't too Valentine-y. You can make something for loved ones and it can be used at other times.

U is for...

UFOs. That's right, Un-Finished Projects. We all know that a common New Year's Resolution is to be better at finishing our projects and get last year's completed. We are here to help you. (Forget the fact that we are the ones that probably put you into this position in the first place. We understand. There are just too many cute thing out there.) Not only do we have awesome kits and beautiful fabric to help you start your project, we have product that will help you finish them up.

*Batting. And we have options for batting. Everything from your standard 80/20 cotton batting to polyester to silk and wool to my absolute favorite......bamboo batting. Sadly we do have the technology yet to let you feel the wonderful thing that is bamboo batting over the Internet. We do have samples of all of the different types in the store at the cutting counter. Feel the 80/20 first, then ask for the bamboo. It makes all the difference.

*Thread. This may seem silly, but I know for a fact that ladies put off projects because they run out of the right color of thread. We have you covered. We carry Gutermann, Mettler, Star, and Aurifil. I love the Star thread for general use. Great neutral colors in large amounts.

*Blades. Life is always better with a new blade. It makes me want to quilt for days.

*Inspiration. Sometimes you just hit a road block. We all do. Come on in and talk to the wonderful ladies in the store. They all have they own strengths and as a combine unit could probably create world peace. Quilts for everyone.

Now that you are ready to start the year off right, you are probably going to hate me with this recipe. Save it for a special occasion. I love deep fried anything. I will have to let you in on deep fried Oreos sometime. It will change you life. (And maybe your weight....but I won't tell.) ;)

Okay. Christmas has taken over, and I apologize for being a slacker. It seems to be that the day before Christmas, or Christmas Eve....(heavens), is a little on the quiet side and I can put some time into our blog. So, T is for....Thimble Blossoms!! If you haven't heard about this awesome pattern company, then welcome to the light, and check out these adorable patterns. Camile Roskelley, the owner of Thimble Blossoms, is the daughter of Bonnie, the designer of Cotton Way. Can you say creative family? Thimble Blossoms patterns range from basic beginner to more experienced, though I would say that she has very well written patterns that anybody can follow. Here are some of our favorites...
* Coming Soon. We have this little guy hanging in the store. Oh my cute.

* A La Mode. This is one of those amazing patterns that look fantastic, but you won't pull your hair out making it.

* Mama's Boy. This was one of her first patterns and I would argue, one of my favorites. A quick whip up for any baby shower. Just because the name is Mama's Boy, doesn't mean that your little princess can't have one of these.

* Piece of Cake (2). I love, love, love the original Piece of Cake from Thimble Blossoms, therefore I cannot help but LOVE this sequel.

Speaking of cake, it is almost Christmas, and therefore we need more red in our lives. Check our this red velvet cake recipe from the one and only Paula Deen.

*The Audrey Wrap from Fig Tree Quilts If I am correct, we just got in this adorable brown polka dot.

*Have you seen this book? Weekend Sewing from Heather Ross Not only does it have skirts, but so many other cute things. You seriously need to check this out.

*I am speechless about this recipe. You are just going to have to check it out.

Ric Rac! That was an easy one to guess. Ric rac made be the greatest discovery since Little Debbie Ho Ho's. There are so many different kinds of ric rac too.
* Jumbo, regular, mini, Moda hand-dyed, and velvet are what we have. The hand-dyed comes in Christmas colors: eggnog and walnut.
*There are SO many adorable things to make with ric rac. Here are some free patterns for quilts and little girly skirts using ric rac.
*Check out this tutorial for a ric rac flowers. They are SO cute. I'm not gonna lie though, I think it kinda looks like a cabbage.
*This car seat tent using ric rac between the layers. This is one of our most popular patterns.

*I am going to throw in some bonus things for you. More trims
*Pom pom trims. OH MY GOODNESS. I live for pom pom trim. I think I would put it on everything I made if I could. We carry all the sizes that Riley Blake makes. Check them out here.
*We also carry crochet trim (adorable), ribbon, and elastic ribbon.
*We have tulle by the yard. It is on spools, not bolts like Joann's. It is perfect for skirts, bags, quilts, pillows, and wrapping gifts.
*New to Quilter's Haven.....satin pleated trim. Oh my beautiful! This is new from Moda and it comes in pink, cream, blue, and brown. Just BEAUTIFUL! I can't find a picture, so you will just need to come in and look and feel it.

Today's recipe is from Paula Deen and Food Network (again). They have the 12 days of cookies happening right now. Check it out. I am particularly interesting in these Chocolate Gooey Butter Cookies.

Quilt Soup!! Did you know that Quilt Soup is owned by Barbra Jones? Did you know that Barbra Jones is from Bountiful? Did you know that Barbra teaches classes at our lovely little shop? SHE DOES!! She teaches our "Repeat Offenders" class, which is all about applique. This is a good thing because Quilt Soup specializes in appilque. Personal Quilt Soup favorites would have to be....

*Cracker Snackers. This may be one of my favorite quilts to make of all time. It is so funky and most people don't realize how easy it is to make. Come in and we will show you.

*Bad Dad. Love this. The little cars going around are absolutely adorable. Great quilt for a playroom. I get so excited just looking at it.

*Smooth Sailing. Come in and see these little sailor ducks for yourself. Fabulous thing about this applique, it isn't teeny tiny.

*Table Scraps. Perfect hodge-podge of colors quilt. It would look so good in any color-way. Maybe the relatively new line from American Jane, Punctuation.

*Mable's Table. This is an old school Quilt Soup pattern. I remember when it first came out, and I have been in love with it ever since.

Barbra is woman after my own heart. She has a tab on her page to a different recipe for the month. This month Healthy Pumpkin Soup. Check it out. We love you Barbra!

Pincushions!! Yay! Pincushions are so much fun. I am a firm believer that one can never have too many pincushions. One for every season. Even better one for every month. Oh yeah. Here are some of our favorites.
*Fresh Picked by Heather Bailey. Love this update on an older classic. Not only is there a pattern for a pear, but included is a strawberry, tomato, and an apple.

*Larry the Lamb from Hatched and Patched. Oh man this little guy is adorable.

*A Little Bird Told Me from Wooden Spool Designs. And I have great news. We have kits. And they come with the wooden spool the little birdie sits on.

*Just in time for Christmas, I have a little treat for you. From Moda Bake Shop: Peppermint Swirl Pincushion
Perfect gift for all your girlfriends.

*P is also for peppermint. I found, just for you guys, Peppermint Pinwheel Cookies, to go along with your pincushion.

Owls. These little guys are the hottest thing right now, as I am sure you all know. And we love love love them. I bet you didn't realize how many owl items we have in the store. Let's start out with the newest owl based fabric line, Hooty Hoot from Riley Blake. I love their eyes. Not only does this line have adorable owl but it has some great coordinates. I think my favorite would be the argyle.
Oh my gosh. I am so excited about this pattern. It is called Remember Who Loves You by Acorn Quilt Company. I am serious when I say that you need to come into the store and look at the sample. Warning though: you will love it. AND we have kits.

Bunny Hill Designs has come up with the cutest little pincushion. Bitty Owl is made from yummy wool and your favorite scraps.

Are you ready for this? I am about to spill some top secret information. Fine....maybe not top secret but exciting nonetheless. We have more owl inspired items coming in. A line from Moda and Momo Designs? Maybe. Squishy stuffed owls? Perhaps. I am going to give you a Thanksgiving gift. Consider it a kickoff to Christmas. Meet Owlivia. Sooo cute.

Notions! Oh my goodness I apologize for being such a slacker. It takes a major blizzard to get me back into the groove. Today's post will hopefully help you find some good ideas for some stocking stuffers. Take some notes and give them to....."Santa". Here are some of the top favorites of our employees.

*Aurifil Thread. Everybody that uses it swears by it. So beautiful. So fine.
* Precision Trimmer by Feathered Star Productions. Yes it is also the same name as a facial hair trimmer...more importantly Jan here at work loves hers. Great for squaring up your blocks

*If you have been to the store lately you will have seen the mini black and white scissors by the cash register. Perfect stuffer. AND they are $4.95.
*Blinding clips. I used to wear these in my hair. It is slightly weird for me to see them as binding clips, but they work great. And Moda has a tutorial to make cute ones, here.

*New blades. New blades are the most wonderful treat. Somebody gives you new blades....you love them forever. Especially if it is a 5 pack.....which we carry.

*If you haven't looked outside lately, I hate to break it to you....it's a blizzard out there. One of my favorite things on earth, hot apple cider. Look here for a fantastic recipe. Soooo gooood.

Mm...mm...Moda! Yeah! The Moda rep dropped by the store yesterday. It's all top-secret, but I can tell you that spring is going to bring some seriously good-looking lines of fabric. Oh man. I can tell you that we have some beautiful collections coming soon from them within the next few weeks and months. I can't get links directly to the lines, but if you go here you can check out all the new from Moda. Sadly, we can't them all, but it is fun to look.
*We already have Bliss from Camille and Bonnie. We have jellyrolls, charm packs, and layer cakes. This is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
*Breakfast at Tiffany's by Fig Tree Quilts. We have the pre-cuts for the collection, but not the bolts yet. They should be coming in a little while. Absolutely beautiful.
*You might have seen the bundles of Lily and Will from Bunny Hill Designs. Maybe some of the delicious baby fabric. It doesn't have to be baby, but we do have many patterns for little ones using it.

I don't want to give away all the new stuff we have coming in, but I promise it is going to be good. Another good Moda thing I love Moda Bake Shop. Check out today. It is the most amazingly beautiful ruffled curtain. LOVE IT!

Again, Paula Deen has come to our rescue with these Magical Peanut Butter Cookies. It says to use a baking sugar substitute, I don't know I really like sugar. :) Either way.

Laminated fabric! I love laminated fabric. I think it is completely underrated. It used to be that the only choices were thick and stiff. Times have changed! Laminated fabric is so much fun to work with and so many different projects are possible. Bags, tablecloths, curtains, diaper changing station covers, and raincoats. Kids! Kids? Yes, today we are going to feature these little people. We love children's patterns and prints. I have SO many different patterns and links to share with you we are just going to jump right into it.
Little girl skirts are one of the funnest things to make. They are bite size and incredibly adorable. We love the Girly Stripwork pattern from Pink Fig. (Did you know that she is from Utah?)

Next up we have something for all of you that have handsome little boys. Boys are fun in a way that girls can't reach. Take a look at these Little Guy Ties from Little Londyn. We love this pattern because it has different kinds and sizes of ties for every taste. There is even a bonus pattern for Dad.

Who doesn't love Buggy Barn? I do. A lot. They are a classic in the quilt world and for a while now, have a pattern book out with children's quilts. It is called Those Crazy Kids.

If you haven't heard of Melly and Me, then I am sorry for what I am about to show you. There is no going back now. They have a book. Kaleidescope.

Going quickly back to boys. I have the perfect book for mothers/grandmothers/anybody with an adorable little boy in their life. It is A Boy's Story from Hatched and Patched. Come in and look through it.

Riley Blake has come out with some dangerously cute things lately. One of the more recent. Crochet flowers. And we have them. They are waiting for you. How cute would they be with a little girl dress or bag? They come in so many fun colors.

The last pattern I am going to leave you with is Amy Butler's Little Splashes Raincoat. I am not going to tell you much because it is going to lead into tomorrow's post. Stay tuned. Ha ha ha ha.

I was thinking hard about what recipe to leave you for our Kids post. And I think I might do something slightly unorthodox for this blog. I am going to send you to this website. If we go Crayola style... inchworm green. I also love grey. And aqua. And red... and peach.

My heart broke the day Haagen0Daz stopped making their Pomegranate Dark Chocolate Chunk ice cream. I'm still trying to recover.

Share an embarrassing or funny story that happened at work:
Back in high school when I was here, somebody bumped into me while I was cutting with the rotary cutter (and I seriously mean somebody bumped into me, this is not code for I slipped). I sliced my thumb wide open! I nearly fainted and couldn't look at it. I drove home holding my finger above my head and out the window. My mother wrapped it up good and I still have a scar.

Journal covers. Beautifully handmade fabric journal covers. We have put together kits for journal covers that include the journal! The ones in the store we have are made from the fabric line Early Bird by Cosmo Cricket.

This is just a piece from the line (yes, we still have it on the bolt, but not much). We just the coordinates and then fussy cut the toasters out. So cute. Here what the journal cover looks like. It isn't in these fabrics but it is the style. Out of the two, the kit is for the nothing but striped journal.

Both are SO cute. Once you get the kit, you can make one for yourself and use the pattern to make some for Christmas gifts. Good idea? I think so. If you find that Early Bird isn't your cup of tea, then we can get the single pattern for you.
You could use the journal to write down all these yummy recipes we are giving you. Like this version of jam print cookies.

Ironing board covers! First off, sorry this is such a late post. Goodness. It was a busy, busy day. Okay, back to ironing boards. We love the idea of cute covers! Have you seen the one we have in the store? It is made from Riley Blake's Domestic Diva. (Yes, THE Domestic Diva) The pattern is Cotton Way's Patchwork Ironing Board Covers. So easy and so cute.

I am extremely excited about this recipe. Inside-out Caramel Apples, I think this might be what causes me to get a gym pass. They are so good and extra easy because of the pastry sheets.

Home Decor fabrics!! We have some fantastic home dec weight fabric in the store. They are located right in front of the red cutting counter. I would say that about half of them are Amy Butler's from her Love collection (if you look toward the bottom of the page you can see the home decor weight fabric, we have most but not all). We even carry my own personal favorite print from Love. How beautiful would that be for a bag? Coat? Crib bedding?!

We carry this fun raincoat pattern from Amy Butler that can be made from the home dec fabric.

Grommets. Yes, grommets. Did you even know that we carry grommets in the store? We do. I don't think too many people know what to do with them. But that is why we at Quilter's Haven are here. To give you ideas. We are pretty good at it. Anka's Treasures makes an adorable tote called the Bella Bag, it uses grommets.

Another pattern that I ran across is Wallet & Grommet from Maple Island Quilts. I think I laughed to myself for about....two minutes. Wallet and Grommets......Wallace and Gromit.......okay moving on.

A few years back I had the hankering to make a shower curtain. I used some of the large grommets we carry in the store. SO CUTE! I am very happy with it. I don't have a picture of mine (I used laminated fabric, but you can use cotton just make sure you have a liner), but I found a picture online that gives you the same idea.

They wouldn't even have to be shower curtains. Any kind of curtain would be cute with grommets. The grommets are so easy to use too.
Ginger snaps. Oh man do I love ginger snaps. It is such a cold snowy day. I think you need to make ginger snaps and hot chocolate (awesome hot chocolate recipes here, they even have ginger hot chocolate) and watch some Wallace and Gromit. :)

Flowers! My goodness I love flowers. I would have to say that my favorite is peonies, though I go through cycles like I am sure most of you do. I am always so sad when the flowers in the vase on the kitchen table start to wilt.

The quilting world has come up with a resolution to that problem! Fabric flowers. So cute and most are so easy to make. One of our favorites is Posie flowers from Fig Tree. You might have seen a vase of these on sticks in the store or if you look closely they are in the Quilt Sampler magazine we are featured in.

Blooming Possibilities is an extremely popular book we carry by Abbey Lane Quilts.

You probably have seen the flowers. We don't have them in the store anymore, they returned home to Abbey Lane. As you can see on the cover, the flowers are cute little frayed guys.
Midwest Mod Pillows from Amy Butler has one of my favorite pillows ever. Hands down. The big round flower one on the front.

Go and search "Midwest Mod Pillows" in Google images and see all the others people have made. You can get some good ideas.
We even have quilts that feature darling flowers. Few of the favorites would have to be Wallflower by Thimble Blossoms.

And Flutterby from Whimsicals. (If you have never heard of Whimsicals, check them out. They design patterns and fabric. Love them. They have a beautifully unique style.)

I am particularly excited about this recipe, mostly because I think I am being witty. Ready? Flourless Cake. (Ha. Get it. Today is flowers and it is flourless cake....just go with it.) And yes it is really from Whole Foods.

Embroidery. We may be a quilt store, but let me tell you, we have some seriously beautiful embroidery patterns. Not only do we have awesome patterns, we carry Week's Dye Works floss. Hand dyed floss. Gorgeous hand dyed floss. We have some smaller embroidery kits in the store right now. Many of them are from Bareroots. One of my favorites is the Christmas Stitchery. Here is a picture. That one is in a frame, but the one that we have a kit for in the store is a pillow. We love Bareroots and have a few adorable Little Stitches kits.
Another embroidery pattern company we love is Crabapple Hill.
Look for the A to Z Embroidery book in the store, it's back by the floss. Fancy that.

DOMESTIC DIVA! Whether you are a self-proclaimed diva or waiting for yours to blossom, we are here for you. Did you know that there is a fabric line called Domestic Diva? It is by Riley Blake (like most good things). Take a look here. You probably have walked right by it in the store and didn't even realize it. It is a hidden treasure. Side-note: Did you know that Riley Blake has a blog? If you scroll down a bit on this page, you will find a tutorial for a Domestic Diva tablerunner. You can also find a Domestic Diva tablerunner pattern at the store. It is by Thimble Blossoms. Best part: it also includes a pattern for a hot-pad and an oven-mitt. Perfect gift. Done and done.

One step above Domestic Diva? Domestic Goddess. Remember that pattern?

Charm packs! We love these little guys. I did a little research. Did you know that one of the definitions for the word charm is "capture: attract; cause to be enamored", also, "appeal: attractiveness that interests, pleases or stimulates". And of course pack means to arrange in a container. So, really, you could say that a charm pack is a way to capture attractiveness (fabric) that simulates (creativity) in a little container. Here are just a few of the charm packs that we currently have in the store.

Since we are already whipping out definitions, might as well add another. Schnibble: A scrap of fabric; a leftover bit of cloth; a small piece. Also, a type of pattern from Miss Rosie's quilt company. Most of these Schnibble patterns call for charm packs! One caught my eye the other day, called Plan-C (ha "C"....get it). Guess what?! We have a kit coming for it made from Punctuation. Get excited. We have a few other kits for Schnibble patterns, you'll have to come in and see them.

Another kit we have that calls for charm packs, but is a larger sized quilt, is Texas Hold 'Em (or so we named it). The pattern is from Fig Tree quilts and it is called Clovers.

I really love you ladies because I have done more research so that I can find you the pattern for that cute pumpkin from the Jo's Little Women Club post. It is also from Fig Tree! See.

Recipe for today. Chocolate Raspberry Truffle tart.....things. So good. Not hard....not super easy. Again, SO GOOD.

B is for....

BAGS! B was a gimme. We adore bags, purse, satchels, clutches, totes, ect. Bags are wonderful gifts. They are easy to make (if you have a good pattern) and you can never have too many. We looked for a few different patterns that might be new to you.

*Mama Mia by Favorite Things. Okay, technically this is a diaper bag. BUT it is a dang cute diaper bag. The fabric used in the picture is Nicey Jane by Heather Bailey. It is an older line and we do have some of it left, but not that piece. Sad day, I know.

* Sidewalk Satchel by Anna Maria Horner. This is on my Christmas wish list. I am pretty sure that it is the perfect size and I am dying to know how she made the rose on the front.

*Sometime you need something a little more traditional. In comes Classy Sophisticated by Seamstress Designs. This would be a good starter bag. Warning: Once you start, there is no going back. (Sorry about the quality of this picture. Away from the store today and this is the only picture I have. Guess this means you will have to come in and check it out. Oh well.)

* Petunia by Izzy and Ivy is going to bring a little razzle dazzle into life. Love this bag because it is just plain cute and girlie. For those days you want to standout.

*If you are like me and just can't have enough bags, this might keep you busy for awhile. Style Stitches by Amy Butler. It is her newest book, full of nothing but bags. Life doesn't get any better.

*We even have a bag kit in the store in case you need a quick gift ready to go. (Again, the picture is not so hot.) The kit is for these exact fabrics. What you see is what you get!

* Just like yesterday I am going to leave you with a recipe. I stumbled across this website last March and it quickly became on of my favorite places to go. A Bountiful Kitchen. Shout out to our little Bountiful! I made these brownies and have become the hit of every party. Check it out.

A to Z Gift Guide

We wanted to do something exciting on our blog for our anniversary during the month of November. We also wanted to show case some of the fantastic and maybe lesser known products that we have in our store, while all at the same time, help you get ready for the Christmas gift giving season! I know. You are SO excited. Yahoo! Oh my gosh I am so excited, I can barely handle it. So, let's start this baby off!

A is for......wait for it........APRONS! Okay, you all probably could have guessed that one coming. Nonetheless, we are excited. I would like to introduce you to just of few of the apron patterns in the store.

*First up we have the Retro Chic Apron from Bliss!

We had a sample of the adorable apron up for a while. You might have seen it. It is just the right amount of frilly.

*Next up would be the Friday Night Apron by Vanilla House Designs. This is one saucy apron. You might be too hot to handle in this one.

Fantastic news! We have a kit for the Christmas version of the Friday Night Apron (as shown above). Go and tell your special someone to come in and get you this kit. Might I also note that when a real person, not a size zero mannequin, puts this on, it is not so......open...on top. Still SUPER cute though.

*You know what A is also for? Amy Butler. Love love LOVE her. AND we love her Domestic Goddess Aprons pattern. It has 3 different styles in one pattern. Holy cow.

*We have another Christmas apron kit! It is a half apron with three tiers. These are some funky holiday aprons. It's the French Flea Market Apron from Busy Bee Quilt Designs.

*Last one. This is actually a book. Ironically enough it is called A is For Apron by Nathalie Mornu. There are 25 "fresh and flirty designs". I like to be fresh....and sometimes flirty. ;)

Favorite??? Ah! Maybe... Meadow Sweet 2 by Michael Miller. Or the super glittery Michael Miller fabric with crowns and damask. Sigh. I dream about Anna Maria Horner, Amy Butler and Heather Bailey, too!

What/who got you into quilting or sewing?
My mommy! She teaches sewing to Junior High aged kids, and we've been sewing together for ever it seems like. I still have lots of stuff she made me as a child.

Sewing project you are most proud of:
I've been sewing for years... but I just finished my very first quilt! I used a simple tumbler block pattern and made it out of Riley Blakes' Felicity fabric and backed it with super cozy minkee. Mmmmm..... love.

Share an embarrassing or funny story that happened at work:
One day last winter, I was feeling a teeny-tiny bit under the weather. I was carrying three bolts of fabric, and just got off the phone with a customer as I was nearing our stairs (a total of four stairs). The heel of my right shoe caught ever-so-slightly on the carpet, which threw me ever-so-slightly off balance. Instead of trying to save myself, I simply immediately admitted defeat and fell down the stairs. On my shins. The fabric and phone when flying and I looked up to fine a nice man from ABC Channel 4 waiting to meet with Joni. He saw the whole thing and rushed over to help me. I was fine, of course. And he was more then gracious and helped me up. As I started walking I realized it hurt a lot worse then I initially thought! I made my way to the bathroom, shed a few tears, check out the damage to my shins (they were each missing some skin) and composed myself to go back to work and face all the people that had witnessed me fall like a toddler. Later that day, I noticed two blue marks on the fabric of the stairs... marks from the deep, dark blue rinse of my jeans- showing me right where I landed!

Jo's Little Women Club

We just wanted to tell you a little about our, relatively, new Block of the Month. It is called Jo's Little Women Club. It is a six month club using some of our favorite Jo Morton fabrics and her exclusive patterns only available through this club! (Check out her blog, here.) I started sewing in my teens and mostly made clothes. I made my first quilt when I was in my early 20's as a lady in our church group taught a little mini quilting class. That project turned out to be a baby quilt which my 1st daughter used. I took a break from quilting as life became hectic as my husband and I raised our children. Now that my husband and I are nearly empty nesters, my love for quilting has returned.

Sewing project you are most proud of:
When it comes to quilting, I'm most proud when my corners and points are right on... I'm quite anal about that and sometimes almost wear the fabric out before it's perfect!
Share an embarrassing or funny story that happened at work:
Probably bumping into the mannequin wearing the apron and saying "excuse me" as I turned around... that's happened more than once!

My Kim Diehl-Idaho Farm Girl quilt. It has 282 pieces in it, very small pieces. I finished it in two weeks!

Share an embarrassing or funny story that happened at work:

One day Teri Christopherson of Black Mountain quilts came into the shop. I've made almost every quilt she has designed and love them. Joni (The boss-woman extraordinaire) introduced me and I started praising her telling her all the quilts I've made. Then I ran around to her, dropped to my knees, and hugged her leg telling her how much I love her! Yeah, embarrassing, funny, no problem. I'm just glad Joni didn't fire me!

I've always loved and collected fabric but didn't know why until my dear friend Diane (who also works here!) introduced me to quilting. That's what you do with fabric! Diane also introduced me to my other love- cross-stitch. A big shout-out to my friend! Thank you!

Sewing project you are most proud of:

I'm pretty much thrilled when I can finish anything. But the quilts I make to give to someone special are the ones I'm proud of.

Share an embarrassing or funny story that happened at work:

There are so many my brain blocks them out, but I do remember those sweet, tender moments at the shop. The dear mother purchasing fabric to make a t-shirt remembrance quilt for her seven year old son who passed away a year ago. A young mom buying fabric to line the casket of her miscarried newborn. A woman bringing in an unfinished quilt her mother started before she passed away & saying she can hear her mother's voice telling her to finish it. Another woman that bought a pattern and was weeping when she saw it because it reminded her of her mom who she just lost. Grandmothers, mothers, and daughters working together on a wedding or baby quilt. Yes, fabric can heal broken hearts, sooth tender feelings, bind us together as families and create memories. Buy some fabric today. It'll make you feel good!

Shop Girl's Retreat

Twice a year, Jan & Diane run away to the Cabin in Idaho for a sewing fest & relaxation.

This year our husbands came up with us for the first 3 days. We visited Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls, pretty cool even in the late summer.

As soon as the men leave. . .WAHOO ! Break out the fabric! It’s time to sew!

Our goal was to complete 2, yes 2, king size quilts from the Halloween 1904 pattern.

Our plan of attack: Jan machine appliquéd – 102 stars – 6 pumpkins -12 leaves & vines -2 moons.

Meanwhile, Diane is piecing 768 black/cream half square triangles. (You did read that right, 768 and not using triangles on a roll).

16 Jane Austin movies and 5 days later (with a couple 16 plus hour days of straight sewing, a bit abusive but we figure that if we ever get confined to a work house sewing all day, we at least know we can do it) there they are, 2 of the most gorgeous Halloween quilts.

Now to save our pennies for the machine quilting.

Stop into the shop to see it and pick up your pattern. We also have a great selection of fabric’s that could be used. Or try adding some yummy wool. You could make it with only four blocks if you’re not up to the challenge of a 102 x 102 size quilt.

Hmmm what to sew next year? Happy quilting and may your bobbin never run out.

It's just like Christmas when the machine quilter comes around!! Take a look at what Katie finished for me today. Once in a blue moon I make a quilt, just for me, and yup; it's another pinwheel. Wanna guess what my favorite block is?

I love the feathers she quilted in the outer border.

P.S. this is a class I'm teaching if any one feels like taking on a challenge.

Katie, you work miracles!! I love, love love this quilt! And now comes the best part....the binding!

Keep quilting, and remember, Chocolate won't solve anything, but it's a fine place to start!

Okay, I have an issue with google.

Have you noticed that if you google Quilters Haven, Utah, you receive a listing and a map for our shop. However, if you click on the link to the web-site listed there, it takes you to a shop in Kansas, also named Quilter's Haven. I'm sure it's a great shop, but I think I'm sending way too much business their way.

I have had phone calls from ladies wanting to sign up for beautiful circle quilt that I have never had hanging in our shop...I have even had ladies complain that they were waiting for us to open our doors at 9:30am, and were mad we were closed.

Please google!!! do me a favor and add a -UT on the link, it can't be that hard to do.
